Scaffolding Inspection Checklist

Follow this checklist procedure for comprehensive scaffolding inspection to ensure structural integrity and worker safety compliance. Checks structural integrity, planking, access, guardrails before and during use.

Structural Integrity & Foundation

  • Inspect base plates and sole plates for proper positioning and stability.
  • Check that scaffold is level and plumb on firm foundation surface.
  • Verify all connections are tight and secure according to specifications.
  • Inspect vertical supports for straightness and stability under load.
  • Check horizontal bracing and cross-bracing installation for proper configuration.
  • Verify tie-ins to structure at required intervals per safety standards.

  • Check stair tower construction and handrails for proper installation.
  • Inspect access openings and trap doors for safe operation.

  • Check that cross-braces are not used as access per safety rules.
  • Verify ladder angle and positioning is correct for safe climbing.
  • Inspect portable ladders used for access to scaffold platforms.

Guardrails & Fall Protection

  • Check top rail height is between 38-45 inches per OSHA standards.
  • Verify mid-rail is installed at required height for protection.
  • Inspect guardrail posts for secure mounting and stability.
  • Check that guardrails withstand 200 lb force per safety requirements.
  • Verify toe boards are installed where required for material protection.
  • Inspect personal fall arrest system anchor points for integrity.
  • Check safety harness and lanyard condition for proper function.
  • Ensure guardrails are continuous around platforms without gaps.
  • Verify no openings in guardrail system exceed regulatory limits.
