Detailed Maintenance Procedures
Follow these specific maintenance procedures for key bulldozer systems. Adjust intervals based on operating conditions and manufacturer recommendations.
Track Tension Adjustment
- Position bulldozer on level ground with blade lowered
- Measure track sag between carrier roller and track shoe
- Compare measurement to specifications (typically 40-60mm)
- Clean track adjuster valve and surrounding area
- Add or release grease using adjuster valve
- Recheck sag measurement after adjustment
- Perform adjustment on both tracks for proper balance
Hydraulic System Service
- Warm hydraulic oil to operating temperature
- Lower all attachments to the ground
- Shut down engine and relieve system pressure
- Clean area around fill cap before removing
- Replace hydraulic filters according to schedule
- Check and clean hydraulic tank breather
- Sample oil for analysis during filter changes
Blade Cutting Edge Rotation/Replacement
- Position bulldozer on level ground with blade raised
- Place safety blocks under blade before working
- Measure cutting edge thickness at center and ends
- Rotate or replace when worn to 50% of original thickness
- Ensure proper bolt torque during reinstallation
- Check end bits simultaneously, replace as needed
- Document service date and hour meter reading
Undercarriage Cleaning & Inspection
- Park on firm level ground with engine off
- Remove accumulated dirt and debris from entire undercarriage
- Inspect track pins and bushings for wear patterns
- Check sprocket teeth for hook wear and scalloping
- Measure track shoe grouser height for wear limit
- Inspect idlers and rollers for smooth rotation
- Take photos or measurements to track wear progression
